Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain First Impression

There has been a lot of talk about the latest game from Konami, Metal Gear Solid V: the Phantom Pain. I recently saw the trailer and here are my first impressions so far.

From the start we can see the amazing new Fox Engine in action. It can be expected that playing this on the next gen consoles will be visually impressive.

The game also seems to have a much more open world feeling this time.  In Metal Gear Solid 4 there was definitely more space to roam around in when comparing it to the previous games but in MGSV it takes it to another level. The ability to ride vast lands by horse and vehicles is definitely a treat. The real question will be if it will be a time consuming factor that we have to go from one end of the map to another on horse and how much of our time will it take, especially concerning for those who like to play more action based games than exploration.

A part of me was hoping for a more closed walls scenario with a more emphasis on stealth like in MGS1, but who knows, we may have parts of the game where that will be included. Also horse stealth looks interesting...

From the trailer it looks as if the game is going for a lot of shock value. From having a lot of sensitive areas shown in the trailer one can assume this is done on purpose to get more viewer-ship. We will have to wait to play the finished product to see how sensitive it really is.

Overall the game looks really exciting and a welcome addition to the MGS line of games. This will be one of those games to pick up on the newer consoles (PS4, Xbox One) to fully enjoy the high end graphics of the new Fox Engine.
